The Creation of the Feranyi

In the beginning, or in fact, even before the beginning, before Voltron tore the hammer from the heart of the void, thereby enraging the demons forever against the gods, it was that Valentine, Benefactor of Pain, the Great Teacher, the Flawed One, The Fallible, went in search of love and friendship. He went out into the void, and spoke with the beings that first resided there.

He went to Lord Luminos, and in speaking to him said, "Luminos, with your nose so bright, would you create a race with me tonight." And Luminos gaze back at Byron, and said, "How can you help this race which you would create with me?" And it took some time for Valentine to respond, because he had been rather blinded by the light pouring form the eyes of Luminos, and back then the void was a dark dark place, for the sun had yet to be made.

And Valentine held his hand up to cut down on the glare and said, "Well I could make them glorious to look at." And Luminos, wondering why the sometimes shifty Byron was avoiding looking at him, bent around Valentines hand and blinded him with his glowing proboscis, and said, "Why that would be glorious. I think that there needs to be more love in the world. I have heard other gods speaking, and they seem to only wish their races to be quick, or smart, or wise, or strong. It seems that so few wish to make the people that they create happy. I think that it is a good thing to create a race of beauty. But they will still be harmful! They will not know the glory of contemplation if they are merely beautiful. But if we were to blend our ways together, I think that we could make them a people more at peace with themselves."

And while Luminos spoke, Valentine was a bit dazzled. He had missed most of Luminos' speech. So it was that he replied, "Huh?"

And Luminos, thinking in his divine wisdom, said, "But what about the balance in the world? All the creatures are created from the stuff of the Earth, the from the blood of its streams, from the skin of the ground, from the skelton fingers of its branches. And all of this is immutable! We cannot make a race with only peace in its heart! For that would be to imbalance the world. And we wish to see the world to be a place of joy."

And Valentine said," I think that I can find a place for the urges most warlike, to keep the balance in the world. I think that I know of one who would know how to smith them into a weapon which could defend the world."

And time passed. And in that time, many things happened and the most remarkable thing that happened was that Valentine discovered that the brother gods were after him, and sought to do him harm. And so, it was that when it came time to create the Ferranyi, he was much concerned over this.

Byron met with Luminos soon after the creation of the world, and spoke with him about the glory of the Feranyi, and how useful they would be to the world and to the other peoples on the world. And so, when the time to create the Feranyi came, Byron had already gotten something special. He had stood at the edge of the Underworld, and collected a touch of the death that resides there. And so when the Feranyi were taken from the earth, he replaced the anger of his people with the pain of death. He had hoped that this would teach them to understand that they were threatened by another power and that there are powers besides the one that they worship. And the Feranyi did learn and called their Lord Valentine the Benefactor of Pain, and their Lord Byron the Harbinger of Joy. And off Byron went, pleased with his action, and bearing the anger and rage that had been taken from his people.

But Byron was not doing so well. He was a bit blinded from working on his people, and working so close to Luminos. So it was that he stumbled along, looking for Artifice, who would be able to take the anger and forge it into a weapon to protect the Feranyi. But instead Byron ran into Fury. And he, still being a little blind, mistook Fury for the old man. And he said to Fury, "Old Man. Wait a second there. I have need of a favor from you."

And Fury was so baffled that Byron would refer to him as old man that he just stopped and stared. And when Byron heard nothing from the man, he assumed that it was because Artifice was well known for his wise and wily ways, and was probably waiting to see what Byron had to offer before speaking. And so Byron said, "Old Man, it is not a complex favor that I would ask of you. All that I wish is that this, the anger of my people, be forged into a weapon to protect them. If I give it to you, could you do such a thing."

And Fury was overjoyed, for he had a people known as the Fire Orcs, of Blood Orcs, and they were a strong and mighty people. But they were not a violent people, for they too had to hold to the balances of the world. And so, Fury saw a chance to get the anger and rage that his people needed. And so Fury pitched his voice to sound older and said, "This I would do for you my friend, and for no price."

Byron handed over the anger, in its tight little ball, and left, saying, "I will come for it soon. I thank you for your generosity." It was only much later that Byron went to Artifice and said, "Where is the weapon you said you would make for my people."

"What are you talking about?" replied Artifice.

"I gave you their anger. You said you would craft a weapon which they could use to defend themselves with it. Where is the weapon?"

"You’re nuts aren’t you?", said Artifice.

And Byron glared at Artifice, and thought, "Artifice is a clever fellow, he has probably hidden my people’s anger." So Byron turned and pretended to leave, but really slipped into Artifice’s shadow and started to follow Artifice. And he followed him around for days and nights, now that they existed, and never did Valentine see his people’s anger.

Many days later, Artifice was talking with Meta, Miranda and Serapis. And he told them about Byron’s strange actions and wondered if they had any idea why Byron would say such things. And the three exchanged glances and were quiet. Artifice left then, sensing that he was intruding, but Byron jumped shadow, and slipped into the shadow of Meta, who had an extra comfy shadow anyway, since it was all filled up with chaosy stuff.

Meta then said, "You don’t think this has anything to do with all the rage we found when we made the Wood Orcs, do you?" And Miranda said, "They do dream most strange things. I wonder if they are normal, or if they have some of this anger."

And Serapis said, "I heard Fury talking about how he gave his people more anger than any others on the earth. Maybe he got a hold of the anger."

And just then Byron laughed, dropping out of Meta’s shadow, for he had come to realize what had happened, and he himself had learned a lesson. The other three just sat and stared at this sight, and once Byron told them what had happened, they too laughed at the strangeness of it all.
