It was in rising anger that Luminos, Lord of Light, saw that the gods knew nothing of discipline and self-sacrifice. There were numerous petty arguments, large numbers of selfish deeds, and not even the Great Council itself seemed capable of acting. And this anger greatly troubled him, for Luminos was also by his nature a god of Love.
Here was the question: How could the virtues of discipline and self-sacrifice be proven to the gods?
Gradually, the answer came. And it came in the form of a great plan.
If the gods of Chaos had made the moon, then let them be bound to it by their own devices, that they might benefit greatly from its power and set free the mana of the Sun. If the gods would quarrel over the Winters of the World, then let them not quarrel pointlessly, but instead have something to quarrel about, that the issue might be settled once and for all. If the gods of Nature were troubled by the races of man, then let the gods of Nature have a place of Life that they might call their own. And if the gods wanted mana, then let them have it in abundance in one great cosmic burst that would indeed benefit them all!
And to these ends, to prove the virtues of discipline and self-sacrifice, this most noble of gods made plans to lay down his very life.
To protect the Feranyi, Luminos quietly arranged for Queen Mab to be taken up into the heavens to become a celestial spirit, and marry Meta, and become herself a goddess, all the while allowing Meta to believe it was his own idea. Knowing that she would use it to protect us and help us thrive, to Mab Luminos would give the gift of a crystalline latticework heart containing the power of Love, and also to her a share in the possession of his own desmesne.
Then, knowing that there was already a seed of Life in the moon, planted there by Havoc, and also by Kowabunga, god of waves, Luminos set about to find a way to warm that seed with the Fires of Creation. Yultan Earthforge was a key to this, as was Havoc, as was Luminos himself. These were the gods of creation of the earth, the moon, and the sun, who would now be called upon to set aside their differences and act together to achieve their aim.
From the gods of Nature would come great gifts of mana. From the gods of Craft would come the skill to forge the potent artifacts that were needed to achieve this brief moment of Creation even beyond its proper time. From the gods of Fate would come a sense of Justice that would make the logic of this effort inevitable. From out of Chaos would come knowledge of the Void, and of its secrets, and of a how a god might descend bodily to the moon. From Fire and from Heat would come the energies of Creation to fuel all else. And at last, from the sacrifice of Luminos and Love would come the power to take an act of Destruction and transform it into Life.
Laws would be needed. Thus did Luminos take control of the Council, as is his Divine Right, and guide it onto the course of wisdom. A compromise was necessary between Yultan and Byron, even if it somehow had to be forced, for Yultan was intent on dealing with the threat of Chaos, and Luminos's friend Byron, who is also our creator and the patron of Love, could not perceive that it was not he himself was not Yultan's enemy, but rather the powers of Chaos that manifest themselves through him.
A compromise was necessary between Gale and Meta, for Meta greatly opposed the winters Gale had inflicted on the world, and would have used Mab to accomplish his aim, and for his part Gale was reluctant to accept the wisdom of making a sacrifice for the greater good. But it was Artifice who suggested a plan.
And thus, into the Void went Luminos, and Yultan, and even Kwammanga, with Skulk to guide them, to seek an answer to the mysteries of the moon, and also to seek out and persuade or capture a demon and his blackened mana.
In the desmesne of Artifice, in the midst of a Banquet of Light did the gods Gather Round the Fire of his forge to assist in the forging of the Artifacts that would ignite the moon. If Gale were willing, a great weapon would be forged for him, in payment for what his sacrifice would cost. But no sacrifice Gale might make would match what Luminos intended.
The powers of Creation were imbedded at the forge. Magic and Science would play a part. And there were Secrets to be learned, for the essence of demon's mana, and even two pieces of a demon's soul were needed to contribute to what had to be done. Yultan and Mordak together made their part of it, working apart from the gods of Craft, placing into their half of it the very magic that would enable the sacrifice to be made.
And when the artifacts were done, and delivered into the hands of Yultan and Havoc, Luminos bade Byron and Meta, and Gale and Mab to go to his desmesne, to very heart of his own soul, to await what would happen. Acanthus, the God of Hidden Places, Sentinel of the Council, who had served Luminos well and carried dreams to the gods, assumed his chosen place upon the Earth itself.
To the lifeless moon the Creators descended. And in one great moment there was a flash of light and fire. The Artifacts of Ignition were brought to bear against their intended target. The Hammer of the Worlds came down once more. And in that great Celestial Cataclysm, fueled by the mana of all the gods and celestial spirits and even the demon who had participated, Luminos gave of himself, gave of his Love, gave of his own Heart--the very Heart he had given to Mab--that Life might be quickened and the Moon reborn.
Across that great silver orb there were Seas of Fire. The magics of Creation that the gods of Nature had imbued into the Artifacts of Ignition were unleashed as the Artifacts themselves were destroyed. Forests and plains and mountains and deserts and seas took shape. A place was made for the souls of the Feranyi. And a desmesne of Love and Chaos for Byron.
And on the Earth, and in the Window on the World, and in the desmesne of Luminos, and even in the corridors of Heaven, in the Silver City and the Great Hall, and wherever there were gods, save only in the darkness of the Underworld and the Void, there was mana in abundance. For only a brief moment it came, a brief moment of creation in which the moon itself might be shaped.
On the Earth, in the hands of Acanthus, the Weapon of Winters might be made. And between Gale and Meta there would be a moment of decision between compromise and war, with the fires of Love burning brightly in Mab, and in Byron the passions of conflict.
For Yultan, his goal will be achieved. And for Havoc, though for neither of them in quite the manner they expect. Beyond this, my vision fails, for this is a vision of Luminos, and I am only his servant and cannot see beyond him.
I am Kwammanga, known also as Inzyl Za, warrior priest of the Feranyi. And these prophecies will come to pass.
