| Athene is a second generation colony from the world of Kuisti. In the early 2500's, Kuisti was going through a period of repression. Disillusioned by their culture and rejecting their religion's limitations, a small group of scientists led by John Kuzak stole a prototype sleeper ship and fled the system. The 162 refugees eventually landed on Athene. There they formed a society almost completely devoted to the pursuit of scientific knowledge. Seeing themselves as superior to the rest of humanity, the Atheneans have little wish for contact with other humans, only rarely communicating with other worlds. It was with some surprise, therefore, that in 2849 all other advanced worlds in the interstellar communication grid received plans on how to build a new FTL drive from Athene. |
