| In 2217, amidst a period of religious oppression on Earth, one of North America's last churches decided to leave the planet and form their own society elsewhere. 40,000 persons left on a generation ship, to arrive 100 years later at their new home. The Kuisti thrived on this terrestrial world, developing a society completely dominated by the Church of the One God. Breeding rapidly, they spread to a number of colonies and outposts on other planets and moons in the system. On the fourth planet out they also discovered the only alien race known to man, the Kaliss, a reptilian people living in a high carbon dioxide, low oxygen atmosphere. Coming down among the stone age Kaliss, the Kuisti were able to give them technology and convert them to their religion, subsuming them into their theocracy. In their communications with other peoples, they treat conversion as their primary goal. |
