Individual nations include the Republica Aurora, the Isis Moons, CorpCo, Free Cithara, Other Nations in Beta Canum, Imbri, Marsellium, the Presidium, and Nerendra.

Aurora was colonized by the first generation ship to leave Earth, with over 25,000 founding colonists going to the rich world discovered in Beta Canum Venaticorum. En route to Beta Canum, the Aurorans encountered a strange disease, possibly the remnants of early biological warfare on Earth. In an attempt to immunize against the disease, the Aurorans suffered a bizarre metabolic transformation which has "compressed" their lifespan, causing them to live the equivalent of a full human life in only 45 years.

Once landed on Aurora, the colony thrived, expanding briskly and spreading out to nearby worlds, even in other nearby systems. Today there are over 50 billion Aurorans divided between three systems. Auroran culture is incredibly creative and dynamic. Philosophy, art, the humanities and politics are all highly refined. Diverse and volatile, Auroran politics are likely to change rapidly and without warning. Aurorans change governmental systems in the same way other peoples change clothing fashions.

Though culturally, politically and economically aggressive, the Aurorans dislike bloodshed, and have refined warfare almost to a form of sport; civilian populations are never affected by battles, which take place solely between professional soldiers in a highly structured context.

Insatiably curious for new frontiers, the Aurorans make great theoretical scientists, though they often lag behind in applications. Their one engineering forte is that of terraforming, at which they are expert, taking lifeless worlds and transforming them into gardens much faster than any other people. Due to their unique background and humanistic outlook, the Aurorans dislike genetic engineering and robotics and rarely employ them.

Despite their numerous political divisions, the Aurorans still maintain a sense of community between all of their settlements. No matter what planet one lives on, he or she is still an Auroran.

  • Gravity: Avg (colonies on moons and asteroids use artificial gravity generators beneath the cities)
  • Advantages: good terraforming, high birthrate, refined culture
  • Disadvantages: low diplomatic relations with non-Aurorans, bad at genetic engineering and robotics, quarrelsome
  • REPUBLICA AURORA (played by Michael Reed)
The core of Auroran culture, including their homeworld of Aurora itself. The Republica includes the worlds Aurora, Cithara, and Nubila (the latter two both terraformed), their associated moons, and five of the moons around the inmost gas giant, Caela. A loose confederation of autonomous regions, the Republica considers itself the true government of all Aurorans.

  • THE ISIS MOONS
A collection of 5 independent nations around the gas giant Isis. Continually bickering among themselves, they only unite to fend off the advances of the Republica. The five nations are: Aquila, Pegasus, the Arean Stations, the Corpus, and Vendharatta.

  • CORPCO (played by Randy Braun)
In 2622, a second wave colony ship arrived at Beta Canum Venaticorum, this time from Alpha Centauri. This ship carried only 400 people in cryogenic sleep, all wealthy businessmen and their families fleeing the warfare of Centauri in hopes of finding new homes and businesses. Coming to Aurora during a period of relative regression and isolation between the worlds due to political disputes, the Centaurans found themselves alienated and isolated by the odd Auroran culture. Unwilling to settle among the Aurorans, they banded together and used their ship (more advanced than those of the Aurorans) as a freelance trader, buying and selling goods between the worlds. Corpco (as the company came to be known) rapidly expanded to become the major trading firm in Beta Canum. Due to continuous contact and intermarriage, Corpco has become fully integrated into Auroran society, but still retains its vast advantage in trade and finance, operating over half the freight carriers (land, sea, air and space) in the system, investing heavily in industry and transportation, and even opening regular trade runs to Imbri and Marsellium. Corpco in many ways operates as a combination company and nation: its employees are considered "citizens" of the company and its offices are granted extraterritoriality wherever they may be. Their corporate headquarters is on an asteroid owned solely by the company.

  • FREE CITHARA
A nation on Cithara independent of the Republic Aurora, Free Cithara is known for its progressive and often experimental social systems. The nation is currently a matriarchy in which women hold the majority of the positions of power, though twelve years ago it was a feudal monarchy, and within a few years will probably switch to something else. While most Aurorans find this behavior a bit extreme, they do appreciate the chance to actually see different social systems in action, and often borrow from the better structures pioneered by the Free Citharans.

  • OTHER NATIONS IN BETA CANUM
At least 23 other countries, independent megacorporations, free societies, and tribal groupings exist in the Beta Canum system, scattered on the outer moons or actually existing within the Republic, recognized as sovereign nations. Some actually have no territory, though have their own citizens and laws. Diverse in scope and nature, they are constantly shifting in their goals, alliances, and makeup, often growing and evolving with blinding speed. Some of the more stable include: Sherwood, H2 Unlimited, Serpens, Lenin's Paradise, AudiCo, Lapsus, the Muses, and Zophila.

  • IMBRI (played by Bethany Wilson)
Aurora's first extra-system colony, Imbri is a rapidly growing nation. The world of Imbri itself has been fully terraformed, and work is progressing on Benares (partially habitable in 2877, fully habitable in 2907). There are also many settlements in the moons and asteroids. Slightly more technically oriented than most Aurorans, the Imbrians are known for their spiry architecture, having many buildings over two kilometers high. Imbri is the only human planet with a beanstalk, making transfer of goods to orbit incredibly cheap.

  • MARSELLIUM
Terraformed 200 years ago by Aurorans, Marsellium was settled by political idealists from Aurora who firmly believed that big governments are wrong. Thus the Marsellium charter states that no nation can have more than 1 million citizens or more than 10,000 square kilometers of territory. There are thus more than 50,000 sovereign nations on the planet. National boundaries may even divide cities. Needless to say, international politics is highly complex, and numerous regional, international organizations exist to coordinate the activities of the countries. Many corporations claim more employees than nations have citizens and thus wield tremendous power in international affairs.

  • THE PRESIDIUM
The Presidium started as an asteroid mining consortium between nations of Marsellium, but evolved into an actual government all its own controlling all the planets, moons and asteroids in the Marsellium system except Marsellium itself. A participatory democracy, all citizens of the nation must vote on every piece of legislation. (The nations of Marsellium also receive a single vote each.)

  • NERENDRA
Basking in the light of four suns, Nerendra was colonized and terraformed by Aurorans 200 years ago. Famous for its crystalline art forms, Nerendra was considered a growing part of Auroran culture until all communications ceased in 2831. With a gravitational pull of 2.1g, Nerendra is the heaviest world colonized by humans. (All values below represent Nerendra 20 years ago.)
